Ocean Plastics Lab
Federal Ministry of Education and Research
Every day, hundreds of containers of plastic waste end up in our oceans. The Ocean Plastics Lab is a traveling exhibition dedicated to the growing challenge of marine litter. It showcases the impact of (micro) plastic on ecosystems, highlights the role of cutting-edge science, and invites the public to explore what we all can do to be part of the solution.
Starting in the end of 2017, the exhibition toured major cities such as Turin, Paris, Brussels, Ottawa, Washington D.C., Berlin, and Lisbon over three years. Developed in close collaboration with scientific institutions and political stakeholders, the exhibition draws on research, real data, and interactive elements. Its modular, open-air design allows flexible placement in urban public spaces, where it becomes a temporary, accessible science lab. Each stop adapts to its context and is enriched by local actors—from youth and educators to policymakers and civil society.
